1 st Arrondissement
The 1st Arrondissement is the Geographical Centre of Paris- the beautiful Tuileries Gardens, the Louvre, Les Halles and the Palais Royale- for me it is the most majestic.
2 nd Arrondissement
The 2nd Arrondissement is the primary business district with La Bourse - Stock Exchange. There are also the original fashion houses in the ‘Sentier’ as well as some beautiful renovated market streets like the Rue Montorgeuil.
3 rd Arrondissement
The 3rd Arrondissement is one of the oldest neighbourhoods in Paris and shares the Marais area with the 4th arrondissement.
4 th Arrondissement
The 4th Arrondissement is the heart of the Marais, which used to be principally the Jewish quarter but now it is a hybrid neighbourhood, a lively atmosphere with great bars and restaurants. It also contains Ile St Louis and Ile de la Cite (the two islands) which are the oldest parts of Paris.

5 th Arrondissement
The 5th Arrondissement holds the fabled Latin Quarter. The name “latin” comes from the fact it was the common tongue for the students of the Sorbonne. It still has a collegiate feel to it and is where I end up looking for great movies. Many of the arthouse cinemas are located here.
6 th Arrondissement
The 6th Arrondissement was once the hangout for bohemians and intellectuals (Les Deux Magots and Café de Flore) - it has now become rather chic. Lots of art galleries, fabulous shoe shops (rue du Cherche Midi- Emelda heaven), wonderful Bon Marche store and some great jazz clubs.
7 th Arrondissement
The 7th Arrondissement has lots of embassies and consulates. It is an expensive residential area and who could possibly forget the Eiffel Tower and Musee d’Orsay.
8 th Arrondissement
The 8th Arrondissement is home to the infamous Champs Elysees with all the shopping and tourists- also reaching to the Madeleine. Paris’ finest restaurants are here- Lucas Carton, Pierre Gagnaire to name a couple.
9 th Arrondissement
The 9th Arrondissement is another diverse district as you go from the seedy chic of Pigalle and Blanche along to the art and culture of the Paris Opera Garnier. In the middle you have Galeries Lafayette- you could shop for days- if it was open 24 hours I would!!
10 th Arrondissement
The 10th Arrondissement used to be a rather faded area with the Gare du Nord and Gare de L’est, but with the onslaught of the Eurostar it’s been revamped and has great style all with retaining a very Parisian charm- the beautiful Canal St Martin is one of my favourite Paris walks.
11 th Arrondissement
The 11th Arrondissement was my home for 8 years and I love it- great scene up in Bastille Oberkampt and Rue Jean Pierre Timbaud. A real mixture of cultures and atmosphere but wonderfully Parisian- for me this is what it is all about.
12 th Arrondissement
The 12th Arrondissement is primarily residential but has had a big influx of artists seeking out undeveloped areas of Paris to set up shop and atelier.
13 th Arrondissement
The 13th Arrondissemen is home of the Paris China Town and the new TGB (Tres Grand Biblioteque) the new National Library.

The 14th Arrondissement houses Montparnasse and has some great cafes and restaurants.
15 th Arrondissement
The 15th Arrondissement is a large residential neighbourhood, which stretches out over a large area, bordering on the wonderful Bois de Boulogne.
16 th Arrondissement
The 16th Arrondissement is the bourgeois district of Paris- there are a lot of tourist attractions such as the Arc du Triomphe and Trocadero.
17 th Arrondissement
The 17th Arrondissement is a very diverse district joining together the wealthy bourgeoisie to the red light district.
18 th Arrondissement
The 18th Arrondissement is Montmartre and ‘Amelie’ land- it still retains a great deal of charm despite being rather over developed in areas- from the Butte you can see right across the capital.
19 th Arrondissement
The 19th is home to the wonderful big park - Buttes Chaumont- which used to be a giant garbage tip- you’d never know now. There is a large ethnic population here with great restaurants.
20 th Arrondissement
The 20th is where Belleville and Pere Lachaise- the cemetery where Jim Morrison is buried along side Oscar Wilde. This district is developing fast and there is a lot to explore up here.
