Gregory Howell & Associates, Inc. dba G H A Travel was founded in May 1993 by Gregory S. Howell and Julie A. Archer. A privately held California corporation, Gregory Howell & Associates is a full-service travel management company, specializing in the development, planning and execution of customized travel programs and events for corporations, organizations and individuals worldwide.

Management and Staff

Gregory Howell, President and Co-Founder

Gregory Howell has a history with Japan that spans over 25 years. His passion for Japan led to earning a graduate degree in East Asian Studies from Cornell University. His graduate study and subsequent focus on Japan and the Asia/Pacific region provides a solid foundation for G H A Travel. He lived in Japan for 6 years, during which time he developed an extensive contact network within a wide range of fields. For three years prior to co-founding G H A, Gregory served as Director of Sales for Nippon Travel Agency Pacific, Inc. where he designed and managed travel programs to Japan. A certified Japan Travel Specialist, Gregory’s experiences enable him to design unique programs to Japan that far surpass ordinary sightseeing.

Julie Ann Archer, Vice President and Co-Founder

Julie shares a long history with Japan, as well as an extensive background in the travel industry. She directed sales and marketing as an Account Liaison at Nippon Travel Agency Pacific, Inc., and also managed customer service operations at United Airlines, Inc. before co-founding G H A. Her areas of expertise include design and development of travel programs, event planning, corporate and leisure travel coordination.

Mari Ueno-Phillippi, Director of Japan Programs

Mari, a native of Japan, worked extensively in the Japanese travel industry as a freelance licensed guide and interpreter in Japan for over 15 years. A graduate of International Christian University, Tokyo, Mari also holds a graduate degree in linguistics from Pennsylvania State University. Working for a nation-wide, government-related youth exchange organization as well, she developed a multi-field network of contacts throughout Japan.  She was recruited to join     G H A in 2001 to develop and guide G H A Signature Travel Programs.

Jennifer Hale, Director of Marketing

Jennifer is the newest member of the G H A team, and brings with her a wide range of sales and marketing experience, as well as work experience in Japan. She lived and worked in Japan for three years, and holds a dual Master of Business Administration and International Management degree from Thunderbird, the American Graduate School of International Management.

Gilbert Fan, Travel Consultant

Since joining G H A Travel in 1997, Gil has provided superior customer service and expertise performing travel planning and management services for individual clients, as well as our corporate and leisure programs. Gil is an expert when it comes to designing vacation packages, and he specializes in cruises.
